We think this is one of the best Sumatra coffees available and is always a reliable performer in our Indo coffee portfolio.
A premium Grade 1 Mandheling grown at higher altitudes and possessing higher levels of acidity and sweet syrupy intensity making for perfect espresso and milk-based beverages.
A really full-bodied coffee with a long, lingering syrupy sweet finish.
Plum and wild spice with sweet fruit.
Along with the Sumatra Lake Tawar, this is one of best Sumatran coffees available in Australia and we are very pleased to offer it for our clients to enjoy from our Estate Coffee collection.
We were looking for a solution to replace the Sumatran in one of our private label customer’s blend and in recent years had not looked closely at Blue Batak due to limited availability – which means basically, it’s no use getting all excited about a coffee if you can only get it for a short time, etc.
This time around, we grabbed from fresh crop and being a grainpro lined bag when we first opened the sack we were pleasantly surprised by a wonderful plum aroma – something you rarely experience on Sumatrans as they tend to have that funky, musty, forest-floor aroma.
Roasting this bean confirmed our original thoughts – wonderfully consistent with lower defect/quaker counts that the previous Sumatran we had been using.
What struck me the most was the intensity and complexity of the aroma – sweet and spicy.
In the cup, this is a beautiful coffee – clean, smooth, rich and espresso shots pour like thick, warm honey.
